The Santa Margarita girls volleyball team had a long day Saturday at the Durango Fall Classic.

The Eagles went to three sets in all of their matches, including the finals, where they were defeated by Assumption of Kentucky, 23-25, 26-24, 25-19.

Santa Margarita finished ninth at last year’s tournament.

Santa Margarita, who started the week winning the Dave Mohs Memorial Tournament, went 3-0 in pool play Friday and defeated Marymount (24-26, 26-16, 25-15), Xavier (21-25, 25-23, 25-19) and Sacred Heart (25-20, 18-25, 28-26) in the semifinals Saturday.

Devon Chang, Jane Horner and Meghan McClure all earned all-tournament honors for Santa Margarita.

The second-place finish for the Eagles was the best by a county team since 2011 (Los Alamitos). The last county team to win the title at Durango was Mater Dei (2001).
