OCVarsity’s season preview for 2016:

ST. MARGARET’S TARTANS

Coach: Stephen Barbee

Last season: 9-3 overall, 2-1 league

Scouting report: St. Margaret’s will face plenty of new challenges. There is no Academy League for the Tartans to win, and the goal of a playoff berth has been shifted as St. Margarets makes the leap from Division 13 to Division 7. Coach Stephen Barbee believes this team is better than last season’s. Three-year starter George Krantz remains at quarterback and he has excellent passing options in senior Auston Locke and junior Ryan Cragun. Marcus Knight, a junior transfer from Washington, has shown flashes of potential. At running back, the Tartans have senior Nick Krantz and promising sophomore Koa Todd, who had 243 yards rushing in the Tartans’ season-opening win, 41-7, over Hawaii Prep on Saturday. The leader of the defense is a four-year starter, linebacker Nick Amoukteh.

Bottom line: St. Margaret’s is as talented as ever, and it should contend for an at-large playoff spot. This is its chance to show it belongs with the big schools.

Players to watch: George Krantz, QB, Sr.; Nick Krantz, RB, Sr.; Nick Amoukteh, MLB/FB, Sr.; Auston Locke, WR/SS, Sr.; Ryan Cragun, CB/WR, Sr.; Koa Todd, RB/SS, So.
