Corona del Mar’s boys water polo team rallied to its own victory Friday night.

Center Brendan Hack scored three fourth-period goals, including the winner with three seconds left, as the fifth-seeded Sea Kings upset No. 4 seed and Orange County No. 2 Huntington Beach, 8-7, in the quarterfinals of the South Coast Tournament at Corona del Mar.

Led by Hack, county No. 4 Corona del Mar outscored the Oilers, 3-0, in the final period for the victory.

In a nonleague game earlier this month, Corona del Mar held a three-goal lead late in the third period against visiting Huntington Beach but the Oilers rallied for a 9-7 triumph.

Andres White helped set up Hack’s winning strike from 4 meters with a steal. Jon Polos recorded the assist.

Huntington Beach led, 2-0, in the first period but Corona del Mar hung tough and took a 4-3 advantage at halftime. Will Rodosky scored three of his team-high four goals in the first half.

The Oilers responded by taking a 7-5 lead after three periods but the Sea Kings completed the rally by outscoring Huntington Beach, 3-0, in the final frame.

Goalie Matt Moran made 11 saves for Corona del Mar’s defense, which shutout Huntington Beach center Quinten Osborne. The Sea Kings defended the junior with Ben Brooks and White.

Ethan Wojciechowski scored three goals to lead the Oilers.

Corona del Mar will take on defending champion and top-seeded Mater Dei in the semifinals Saturday at 11:45 a.m. at Newport Harbor.

The Monarchs advanced with a 19-3 victory against Long Beach Wilson in a quarterfinal at Newport Harbor. Will Lapkin netted five goals for Mater Dei.

In another quarterfinal:

Foothill 15, Dana Hills 10: Mike Miller scored five goals as the host Knights used a 5-1 third period to claim the duel of the top-two ranked teams in Division 2. Foothill will play Loyola of Los Angeles, an 8-4 winner against The Bishop’s of La Jolla, in the semifinals at 10:40 a.m. at Newport Harbor on Saturday.

In a consolation game:

Capistrano Valley 11, El Toro 9: Austin Sechrest continued his torrid week with six goals as the Cougars upset the Chargers to reach the ninth-place semifinals. They will play Newport Harbor, a 13-9 winner against Laguna Beach, on Saturday at Corona del Mar at 10:45 a.m. in the ninth-place semifinals. Orange Lutheran and Agoura are in the other ninth-place semifinal.
