Corona del Mar freshman Eva Merrell blazed two school records Wednesday to help lead the Sea Queens’ No. 5 girls swim team past host No. 8 Irvine, 90-80, in the Pacific Coast League.
The Aquazot club swimmer won the 100-yard butterfly (54.26 seconds) and 100 backstroke (56.20) in school records but also anchored the 400 free relay in an eye-popping 49.87.
Senior Meagan Popp also won two races for Corona del Mar, touching first in the 200 individual medley (2:05.92) and 500 free (5:02.73).
