OCVarsity’s season preview for 2016:

MAGNOLIA SENTINELS

Coach: Ryan Olson

Last season: 4-6 overall, 2-3 league

Scouting report: The Sentinels open the season with a three-way battle for the starting quarterback job, and Coach Ryan Olson said each player “brings something different to the table.” Last year’s starter, junior Raymond Perez, appears to have the inside track. He finished last season with 545 passing yards and two touchdowns, but he’s being challenged for the job by senior Nathan Michel, a transfer from Cypress, and junior Lia Asoau. “All three are talented,” Olson said. The Sentinels are extremely young overall, and Olson said they might start as many as six sophomores.

Bottom line: The Sentinels have depth at quarterback, but seem to be lacking it everywhere else. They will likely be part of the battle for the league’s third and final playoff berth.
