WHITTIER – Nick Magee didn’t get many carries Friday night, but when he did he made the most of them. Magee scored touchdowns on three of his seven carries to lead Troy to a 41-18 nonleague victory over California of Whittier.

Magee had three carries for 5 yards in the first half, but his big plays in the second half helped Troy (3-0) pull away. On their first possession of the second half, the Warriors ran the ball five consecutive times on a 64-yard drive that ended with Magee’s 10-yard touchdown run. Magee then broke off a 55-yard touchdown run on Troy’s first possession of the fourth quarter to extend the lead to 34-10. Magee finished with 109 yards rushing, including a 6-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

Magee wasn’t alone when it came to big running plays. The Condors (1-2) shut down Troy’s Draytwoine Shaw early (0 yards on six first-half carries), but Shaw found holes after halftime and finished with a game-high 125 yards, including touchdown runs of 42 and 32 yards.

Troy’s defense came up with key turnovers. Ryan Scotti intercepted a pass on the first play of the fourth quarter and Jesse Johnson intercepted a pass near the goal line.
