Mollie Simmons, Brooke Hourigan and Maddy Vincent each scored twice to lead a balanced attack as Orange Lutheran’s No. 2 girls water polo team opened defense of its Trinity League title with a 10-7 victory against No. 9 Santa Margarita 10-7, Tuesday at Santiago Canyon College.

The Lancers (11-1, 1-0) placed seven players in the scoring column but the score was tied at halftime, 5-5.

Christina Doherty had three goals, an assist and two steals for the Eagles while Ava Perkins added two goals.

The Lancers also beat Santa Margarita, 10-7, in league last season.

Orange Lutheran continued to build momentum for this weekend’s Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions. The Lancers defeated No. 6 Huntington Beach, 10-8, on Saturday.

Orange Lutheran is the defending champion at the Santa Barbara TOC, which begins Thursday with play-in games.

In the Sea View League:

Aliso Niguel 15, Capistrano Valley 7: Shannon Swanson led seven players in scoring with five goals to pace the host Wolverines (10-1, 1-0).

In the South Coast League:

San Clemente 11, Dana Hills 5: The visiting Dolphins led, 4-3, at halftime but the Tritons (6-5, 1-0) won the second half, 8-1. Brooklyn Aguilera scored three goals for the Tritons while three other players netted two apiece. Victoria Reardon added 11 saves for San Clemente. Goalie Kaley Hardgrave made 14 saves for the Dana Hills (9-6, 0-1).

San Clemente plays host to El Toro on Wednesday.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Irvine 5, Woodbridge 3: The host and Division 3 Vaqueros improved to 3-0 in league behind 10 saves by Alex Wall.

Northwood 11, University 6: Amanda Nguyen scored five goals and Katie Monjay made 12 saves to lead the visiting Timberwolves (8-6, 1-1), who won their third consecutive game.

In nonleague:

Savanna 10, Western 7: Demari Kawasaki scored five goals to help lead the host Rebels, who built momentum for Wednesday’s Orange League at Valley.

Esperanza 8, Brea Olinda 6: Sedona Sinclair made 15 saves to lead the visiting Aztecs against the co-favorite in the North Hills League.
