GARDEN GROVE – What started off as a Fairmont Prep free-for-all became a clear and calculated 32-21 Los Amigos victory Friday at Garden Grove High – and all without the help of Lobos’ quarterback Isaiah Potts.

Potts, who broke his thumb last week, was replaced by wide receiver Steven Hernandez, and whatever game plan Coach Carl Agnew had before Potts’ injury was replaced with a simple strategy: “Just run the ball.”

It wasn’t successful in the first quarter, and the Lobos trailed 14-0.

The Lobos caught a break early in the second quarter when they recovered a fumble inches from the end zone. The Lobos scored, then gained some breathing room after a 55-yard run by Hernandez and 19-yard run by running back Edgar Galindo.

The winning touchdown came when Fairmont fumbled the ball again, allowing Lobos to grind toward end zone. Galindo scored on a 9-yard rush.
