OCVarsity’s season preview for 2016:
LOS AMIGOS LOBOS
Coach: Carl Agnew
Last season: 3-8 overall, 3-2 league
Scouting report: The Lobos are coming off a season filled with highs and lows. They lost their first five games, won their first three in league, essentially qualifying for the playoffs, and then ended the season on a three-game losing streak. The Lobos return with a predominantly senior squad that is determined to lead the way back to the playoffs. The first task is to replace the 1,900 yards on the ground gained last season by the senior tandem of Jose Olvera and Jorge Najera. Senior Edgar Galindo is slated to be the workhorse back. Look for Joseph Deluna to also figure prominently in the attack. On defense, the Lobos are led by all-league returners Brian Ruiz and Solomon Fetalaiga. Another important piece to the team is senior Steven Hernandez, a two-way standout.
Bottom line: The growing pains from last year will lead to success this year, helping the Lobos find their way back to the CIF-SS playoffs.
Players to watch: Steven Hernandez, WR/SS/K/P, Sr.; Brian Ruiz, Sr., OT/DE; Solomon Fetalaiga, Sr., OG/DE., Zach Boyer, OLB, Sr.
