SEMIFINALS

El Modena (11-1) vs. Yorba Linda (10-2)

Where, when: Yorba Linda High, Friday, 7 p.m.

Outlook: These teams played each other in a nonleague game on Sept. 30. El Modena won, 42-21, as quarterback A.J. Esperanza threw two touchdown passes and Dillon Keefe ran for three touchdowns. Yorba Linda quarterback Luke Wilson passed for 215 yards and a touchdown in that game, Jaydyn Webb rushed for 140 yards and two touchdowns and Ricky Lane had five receptions for 104 yards. El Modena is No. 16 and Yorba Linda is No. 18 in the Orange County top 25. Yorba Linda, which opened in 2009, is trying for its first CIF-SS football championship game. The Mustangs beat Kaiser of Fontana, 45-12, in the first round and beat Garden Grove, 20-17, in the second round. El Modena, the top seed in this division, is in the semifinals for the third year in a row. The Vanguards beat Rio Mesa of Oxnard, 35-21, in the second round. The winner plays the Burbank-Don Lugo of Chino winner in the championship game.
