Yorba Linda won “The Battle of The Boulevard” on Friday when the Mustangs defeated Esperanza, 42-3.
The teams are not in the same league, but they have a geographical rivalry. Many students who attend Yorba Linda High were in the Esperanza attendance area before Yorba Linda opened in 2009.
Yorba Linda, No. 21 in the Orange County top 25, is 6-1. Esperanza is 1-6.
Yorba Linda plays its Crestview League opener against Foothill on Friday at Tustin High. Esperanza plays Brea Olinda at Yorba Linda High on Friday in a North Hills League opener.
