Esperanza had another strong showing at the mats, this time at the Temecula Valley Battle for the Belt.

The Aztecs were led by freshman Aaron Nagao who captured the 106-pound title, beating (the second (Jacob Allen, Poway) and fourth-ranked (Jonathan Prada, Downey) in the state.

Ethan Gould (113) and Josh Brown (132) were fourth at their weights and Isaiah Mora finished eighth at 138.

The Aztecs finished with 111 points in 10th place, best among county schools and fourth best among Southern Section schools.

Not to be overlooked, the girls were also in action over the weekend and they were also successful, even though there were only two in action at the Baldwin Park Tournament.

Makayla Rydbeck won the 101-pound title and received Lower Weight MVP honors, winning four matches by fall another by technical fall and Gwen McDonald captured the 121-pound title.
