The Register’s player of the year.
Bryan Ibarra
Godinez, Forward, Jr.
He scored 27 goals, second most in the county. He scored two goals in the Grizzlies’ 2-0 victory against South Torrance in the CIF-SS Division 4 championship game, the first title for the school’s boys soccer team. He was the Orange Coast League offensive player of the year and CIF-SS Division 4 player of the year.
Oscar Navarro
Santa Ana, Forward, Santa Ana
He was the Golden West League player of the year and an All-CIF Division 2 selection. He finished the season with 22 goals, tying him for third in the county.
Edgar Adame
Godinez, Midfielder, Sr.
He was the Orange Coast League player of the year and an All-CIF Division 4 selection. He played a pivotal role in the Grizzlies winning the CIF-SS Division 4 championship and advancing to the Southern California Regional Division IV championship game.
Marco Salmeron
Santiago, Midfielder, Sr.
He was MVP of the Garden Grove League and helped the Cavaliers advance to the championship match for the second year in a row. He was an All-CIF-SS Division 5 selection. “He is hard working, unselfish, good sport, tough, smart and technically skilled,” Santiago coach Sean Redmond said. Salmeron finished the season with 13 assists.
Cole Smith
El Dorado, Midfielder/Forward, Sr.
He finished with 17 goals. He had one three-goal game and three two-goal games. He was selected the North Hills League MVP.
Miguel Tapia
Sunny Hills, Midfielder, Sr.
He was an All-CIF Division 2 selection and the Freeway League player of the year. “He is a definite presence in the middle of our formation as he dominated in all 27 games,” Sunny Hills coach Mike Schade said. The four-year varsity letterman scored five goals and added 10 assists.
Anthony Arellano
Santa Ana, Defender, Sr.
He was selected Golden West League defensive player of the year for the second consecutive season. The Sanits gave up two goals in four playoff games as the they advanced to the semifinals of the CIF-SS Division 2 playoffs. He was an All-CIF Division 2 selection.
Mauricio Martinez
Godinez, Defender, Sr.
He was an All-CIF Division 4 selection after helping the Grizzlies post 12 shutouts in their last 18 games. The Grizzlies conceded just two goals in 10 league games and two goals during five postseason games. He was an All-Orange Coast League selection.
Mason Paine
Valencia, Defender, Sr.
He helped the Tigers finish the season with a 0.36 goals-against average and 17 shutouts, including six in a row to end the regular season. He was first team all-league in the Empire League.
Jonathan Stoop
Santa Margarita, Defender, Sr.
He helped the Eagles post eight consecutive shutouts during the season. He also scored 11 goals from his center back position. He was selected Trinity League defensive MVP. He has with UC San Diego.
Brendan Fix
Edison, Goalkeeper, Sr.
He was selected the Sunset League MVP. He posted eight shutouts and a 1.00 goals-against average. He made 82 saves.
