A look at the league’s race for a spot in the CIF-SS playoffs and for the league title.

EMPIRE LEAGUE (SOUTHWEST DIVISION)

At stake: Top three teams in league are guaranteed a playoff spot in the Southwest Division. Three at-large berths are available. No Empire League team was awarded an at-large berth in 2014.

Valencia (10-0, 5-0): The Tigers finished the regular season with a perfect record after topping Pacifica, 35-14, on Thursday. Valencia has made its case to capture one of the Southwest Division’s top four seeds. 

Tustin (8-2, 4-1): The Tillers claimed sole possession of second place by beating Kennedy in overtime on Friday. 

Kennedy (5-5, 3-2): The Fighting Irish go into the postseason as the league’s No. 3 representative.

Pacifica (6-4, 2-3): The Mariners finished fourth in the Empire League after dropping their game to Valencia, 35-14, on Thursday. Pacifica will be one of the school’s in consideration for a Southwest Division at-large berth. 

Western (2-8, 1-4): The Pioneers are not playoff contenders, but ended their season with a 24-15 win over Cypress.

Cypress (2-8, 0-5): The Centurions went winless in Empire League play this season.
