A look at the league’s race for a spot in the CIF-SS playoffs and for the league title.

*Updated, Friday*

ACADEMY LEAGUE (EAST VALLEY DIVISION)

At stake: Top two teams in league are guaranteed a playoff spot in the East Valley Division. Two at-large berths are available. Crean Lutheran earned at at-large berth in 2014.

Brethren Christian (9-1, 2-1): Thursday proved to be a great night for the Warriors. Not only did Brethren Christian force a three-way tie for first place with a 51-36 win over Crean Lutheran, but it also won the league’s coin flip and will go into the postseason as the Academy’s No. 1 representative.

Crean Lutheran (7-3, 2-1): The Saints failed to capture its first outright league title on Thursday, but they were awarded the league’s second guaranteed playoff bid because of the coin flip results.

St. Margaret’s (8-2, 2-1): The Tartans didn’t play on Thursday, but lost in the coin flips with Brethren Christian and Crean Lutheran. As a result, they now need an at-large berth to qualify for the East Valley Division playoffs. Being the defending CIF champs, St. Margaret’s figures to be a slam dunk choice for one of the division’s two at-large bids.

Sage Hill (2-8, 0-3): The Lightning are out of playoff contention.
