OCVarsity preview of the 2015 season:

EL TORO CHARGERS

Coach: Mike Mayoral

Last season: 8-4 overall, 2-2 league

Scouting report: Coach Mike Mayoral was promoted from defensive coordinator when Robert Frith accepted the athletic director position at El Toro. He takes the steering wheel of a program known for its high-octane offense. Among the returnees on offense is Colin Kentros who had 77 catches and was All-South Coast League last year. Otherwise, the offense has several new faces including at quarterback, where junior DeWitt Wilson replaces 2014 league offensive MVP Trey Tinsley. The defense has more battle-tested players, including returning all-league linebacker Dillon Sherman who compiled 79 tackles in ’14.

Bottom line: El Toro might not challenge Mission Viejo for the league championship, but the Chargers should be in the competition for one of the league’s three playoff berths.

Players to watch: Colin Kentros, WR, Sr.; Adrian Morrow, RB/DB, Jr.; Dillon Sherman, LB, Sr.; River Simmons, DB, Sr.; DeWitt Wilson, QB, Jr.
