OCVarsity’s preview for the 2015 season:
(Editor’s note: The preview has been updated to reflect that Connor McCloud is no longer on the Dana Hills roster.)
DANA HILLS DOLPHINS
Coach: Phil Skinner
Last season: 1-9 overall, 0-4 league
Scouting report: The Dolphins have a new coach who hopes that means a fresh start. “We’re trying to change the culture of the football climate here,” said Phil Skinner, an assistant head coach at Dana Hills last year. “We’re going to get people to believe what a great situation we have here and what kind of program we can and will be.” A rapid turnaround seems unlikely. Only two starters return on offense and three on defense. The schedule is a tough one, with five of six nonleague games against 2014 playoff teams and a league opener against league-favorite Mission Viejo.
Bottom line: Enthusiasm is high, but the talent level probably is not at an altitude needed to compete for a playoffs berth.
Players to watch: Charlie Bortnick, WR/DB, Jr.; Ryder Lynch, DB, Jr,; Juan Moreira, LB, Sr.; Jakub Podgorski, OL, Sr.
