DIVISION 4

2014 champion: Torrance

Top four seeded teams: 1. California of Whitter (23-5); 2. South Torrance (20-8); 3. Don Lugo of Chino (19-6); 4. Serrano of Phelan (18-7).

O.C. teams: Anaheim (18-9); Calvary Chapel (19-7); Century (16-9); Godinez (11-14); Katella (16-9-1); Laguna Beach (19-6); Sonora (18-8-1); Sunny Hills (16-9); Troy (15-10-2).

Analysis: Anaheim won the Orange League championship and is in the playoffs for the 10th season in a row. The Colonists are a fundamentally-sound team, which is quite an attribute to have in a fewest-mistakes-wins game like a CIF baseball playoff game. Sonora is the champion of a good league, the Freeway League. The Raiders are in a favorable part of the bracket, too, so a journey into the quarterfinals or beyond is feasible. Troy finished second in the Freeway League and won two of three against Sonora for the first time in a few years. The Warriors got a challenging first-round assignment, an away game at Almont League champion Montebello (15-10). Orange Coast League champion Laguna Beach has won a county-record 48 consecutive league games. All six of the Breakers’ losses were to higher-division teams, including a few to Division 1 teams.
