Reck helps Trabuco Hills secure Sea View title

Trabuco Hills boys golf coach Joel Wittenberg said Chris Reck is the type of athlete that no matter what sport he is playing, he is likely to be among the best players on the field.

He was a tailback and defensive back on the school’s CIF-SS championship football team, the best lacrosse player at the school as a freshman, Wittenberg said, and on Wednesday, he helped Trabuco Hills win its third Sea View League golf championship in the past five years.

“And he is just scratching the surface,” Wittenberg said. “He just good. He’s a natural.”

Reck posted a 1-over-par 36 on the front-nine at Marbella County and shared medalist honors with teammate Joon Park as the No. 6 Mustangs cruised to a 188-219 victory against San Juan Hills.

It was the second time this season Park and Reck have posted the low score for Trabuco Hills (14-4, 6-1), which has posted a score in the 180s five times this season.

Jake Peterson and Jake Paine also broke 40 for the Mustangs, carding a 37 and 39 respectively.

“The kids have worked so hard and they enjoy playing with each other,” Wittenberg said. “They have fun being around each other, and in the past I haven’t had that. That is why this (winning the league championship) is so great. They have worked so hard for it.”
