The Trinity League swim meet between Mater Dei and host Servite on Thursday came down to a winner-takes-all finish.

The No.7 Monarchs won the meet-ending 400-yard freestyle relay by a second to emerge with an 88-82 victory.

Mater Dei’s team of Matt Payne, Nick Silvers, John Redoutey and Spencer Carroll clocked a winning time of 3 minutes, 14.60 seconds to edge the Friars, who touched in 3:15.87.

The score was tied, 78-78, going into the 400 free relay.

In girls swimming:

In the Trinity League:

No.1 Santa Margarita 120, JSerra 50: Sydney Franzen won the 200 (1:52.78) and 500 (5:00.43) and Emily Gibson outdueled Catherine Lowengrub in the breaststroke to lead the visiting Eagles.

Gibson touched first in 1:05.27, just over a second ahead of Lowengrub at 1:06.44.

Karli Thuen claimed the 50 free (24.20) and 200 individual medley (2:04.87) for the Lions.

Santa Margarita’s Katie McLaughlin and JSerra’s Kaitlyn Albertoli both missed the meet because of U.S. junior team camp in Colorado.

In boys golf:

In the Pacific Coast League:

No. 6 Woodbridge 197, University 205: Hide Yoshihara and Justin Sheparovich both posted an even-par 36 to lead the Warriors at Rancho San Joaquin. They shared medalist honors with Ari Gulugian, who led the Trojans.

“That was not a good score, not at all for the team,” Yoshihara said.

The Warriors’ score, Woodbridge coach Tracy Robert said, was proof that spring break couldn’t have come at a better time. The Warriors have spent a lot of time on the course in the past six weeks, and all of those tee times seem to have worn them out, leading to Thursday’s round, which was 13 strokes higher than what the Warriors have been shooting on average the past month.

“They have been working hard and they need a break,” Roberts said. “The last two rounds they have been playing tired.”

In the Trinity League:

No. 1 Servite 182, No. 10 Santa Margarita 187: Brandon Brame shot 2-under 33 to lead the Friars at Western Hills Country Club.

In the Sunset League:

No. 5 Marina 184, No. 9 Edison 188: Cameron Bauer shot a 1-under 35 to lead the Vikings at SeaCliff Country Club.
