Sunny Hills holds off Rancho Alamitos
BUENA PARK- Sunny Hills dodged a number of fourth-quarter bullets in its home opener against Rancho Alamitos and held on for a 16-13 nonleague victory Friday night at Buena Park High.
The Lancers (1-1) got their only lead of the game when Brett Trump scored his second touchdown of the evening, a 12-yard run with five minutes, 40 seconds left in the game.
The Vaqueros (1-1) would make it interesting with a sequence in the closing seconds of the contest that saw Sunny Hills penalized twice on score-tying field goal situations and Rancho Alamitos electing to go for the victory going for it.Juan Garcia's 50-yard field goal attempt fell short and commenced a premature Sunny Hills celebration.
The Lancers were called for roughing the kicker, which gave the Vaqueros another field goal opportunity. A second penalty against the Lancers, for having 12 players on the field, sent the ball to the Lancers 12-yard line.Vaqueros head coach Mike Enright decided to go for the end zone, but Mike Frank's pass was deflected by Jae Byun, and the Lancers victory celebration began in earnest.
