U.S. Lacrosse Orange County Championships

ST. MARGARET’S vs. JSERRA

When: Wednesday, 7:30 p.m.

Where: Tustin High

Previous meeting: St. Margaret’s won 12-7 (April 4)

Outlook: This is probably the final many didn’t expect to see. The Tartans upset second-seeded Corona del Mar, 8-6, and fourth-seeded JSerra knocked off top-seed and defending champion Foothill, 14-13 in overtime on a goal from Jake Schleppy. Both St. Margaret’s and JSerra avenged earlier season losses with their victories Saturday. Nick Shanks had a big day for the Tartans scoring three goals and adding a couple of assists. Ryan Harnisch was 11 of 18 on face-offs. The Lions, who ended the regular season as Trinity League champions, were a determined group Saturday. James Yanes and Yuta Murata had four goals apiece. Schleppy had three, including the winner. An interesting battle will be between face-off specialists (Ryan) Harnisch for the Tartans and Austin Shackleford for the Lions. Shackleford played a key role to the Lions’ third period charge against Foothill in the semifinals. This is the second consecutive trip to the county finals for the Lions. The battle in goal is between Payton Fales (St. Margaret’s) and Beau Largent (JSerra).
