Aquazot swimmer Eva Merrell, coming off a strong showing at the recent U.S. Olympic Trials, has been named to the United States’ roster for the Junior Pan Pacific Championships next month in Hawaii.

The meet runs Aug. 24-27 at the Kihei Aquatic Center in Maui, Hawaii, and features top up-and-coming swimmers from the U.S., Canada, Japan and Australia.

The U.S. roster was determined by performances at the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials, which ended July 3 in Omaha, Neb.

Merrell reached the semifinals of the 100-meter butterfly and 200 backstroke, setting a Southern California Swimming record in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2 minutes, 10.21 seconds. She also tied for 26th after the preliminaries of the 100 free.

Merrell said via Twitter on Tuesday that she is planning to return to Corona del Mar this fall. Merrell raced for Pacific Coast League school as a freshman and then studied on-line last year while she focused on training for the U.S. Trials.

As a freshman at Corona del Mar, she won the 100 backstroke and finished second to Katie McLaughlin in the 100 butterfly.

She trains under Coach Todd Hickman at Aquazot.
