SANTA CLARITA – JSerra made sure history didn’t repeat itself.

The Lions were knocked out of the playffs last season by Hart of Newhall, but their strong all-around play prevented that from happening again when the two teams met Friday in the quarterfinals of the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs.

JSerra erupted for 11 runs in the first four innings and went on to a 13-1 victory over the Indians.

JSerra (27-6) moves on to face Harvard-Westlake of Studio City in the semifinals on Tuesday at Blair Field in Long Beach.

JSerra scored twice in the first, second and third innings before exploding for five runs in the fourth.

“They jumped on us,” Hart coach Jim Ozella said. “They just overwhelmed us.”

Colin Townsend led the Lions with three hits and three RBI. Royce Lewis led off the game with a double and finished with with two hits and two RBI. Brady Shockey, Mark Manskar and Micah Pries each had two hits.

Chase Strumpf had a sacrifice fly for an RBI in the first inning, Lewis singled home a run in the second, Lewis had another RBI in the third and Townsend had a two-run single in the fourth.

Hart could not solve JSerra’s right-handed sidearmer Collin Quinn. Quinn only needed to pitch four innings. Quinn improved to 12-0.

Quinn faced just one batter over the minimum through the first three innings without allowing a hit.

“I think he is the best pitcher in Southern California right now,” JSerra coach Brett Kay said. “Last year was very tough to swallow. It was about us today. It was about doing what we needed to do.”

JSerra won its 11th consecutive game and has only surrendered two runs in three playoff games.
