MISSION VIEJO – JSerra continued its steady roll through non-league play on Friday. This time, though, it was the Lions’ defense that stumped their opponent.

JSerra held Hamilton’s standout quarterback and Cal-commit Armani Rogers scoreless through the first half and let its offense do the rest, defeating the Yankees, 42-14, Friday at Saddleback College.

“I thought we did a good job of pressuring the quarterback,” said JSerra coach Jim Hartigan. “I thought coverage was pretty strong.

“We opened up the offense a little bit and took some shots.”

JSerra (4-0) took the lead on a pair of first-quarter touchdowns by Kyle Adams, the first a 1-yard run and minutes later a 20-yard pass from sophomore Matt Robinson. Robinson and Riley O’Brien continued to alternate snaps at quarterback.

O’Brien connected with Michael Zabran on a short pass midway through the second quarter that Zabran ran down the middle for a 39-yard touchdown reception. Chris Mitchell streaked through the middle for a 73-yard touchdown run two minutes later.

JSerra led, Hamilton (1-3), 42-0, at halftime.

Rogers passed for 163 yards and one touchdown. Running back Avery Williams ran for 94 yards and two TDs.
