Dana Hills’ boys swim team received some early-season motivation Tuesday.
The visiting Dolphins lost at fellow Division 1 contender Loyola of Los Angeles, 121-63, in a nonleague meet.

Last season, Dana Hills and Loyola finished second-third, respectively, in Division 1. Both are expected to be title contenders again this spring.
The Dolphins won two of the 12 events in a meet that included diving.
Owen Kao captured the 200-yard freestyle in 1 minute, 40.32 seconds, an automatic Division 1 qualifying time.
Chris LaBella won a six-dive competition with a score of 230.35.
One of Loyola’s impressive times was a 1:26.23 in the 200 free relay.

Mater Dei starts strong: The Monarchs’ boys went 1-0-1 in a double-dual meet against Santiago of Corona and host Northwood while Monarchs’ girls swept. Mater Dei’s boys and Santiago tied, 85-85.
Aislinn Light swept the 200 individual medley (2:08.85) and 100 backstroke (57.50) for Mater Dei. Kayla Constandse won the 50 free (25.02) and finished second in the 100 free (54.55).
Marina sweeps Long Beach Poly: The host Vikings opened with an 87-82 victory in the girls meet and an 86-84 triumph in the boys meet. Jacquelyn Harris clocked a Division 1 automatic qualifying 56.68 in the 100 butterfly for Marina.
Freshman Sage Matsushima broke two minutes in the 200 free (1:58.17) and one minute in the backstroke (59.71).
