The lineups for third-ranked Laguna Hills and fourth-ranked Trabuco Hills were fluid from the outset of their South Coast League dual Tuesday. Both coaches moved wrestlers around the lineup in an attempt to find an advantage.

The Hawks found the right combination and rolled to a dominating 60-6 victory at Trabuco Hills.

“They shuffled, we shuffled,” Laguna Hills coach Cliff Jarmie said. “It was one of those things. We had one guy out of the lineup and we had to juggle some things around.”

The dual started at 115 pounds and the Hawks picked up 12 points as Steven Kroesen won by forfeit and Anthony Le (122) followed with a victory by fall.

Two matches later, Nick Volpe (134) picked up an 8-2 victory, which followed Josh Fuentes’ 6-3 victory at 128, giving the Hawks an 18-0 lead.

Jarmie pointed to Volpe’s performance as one of the keys to the match.

“He’s usually a Team 2 guy,” he said of Volpe. “He did a great job, got a big win for us and kept the momentum going in those early weights.”

The Hawks kept things rolling with a couple of decision victories, and Phillip Zamora added a victory by fall at 154 to extend the lead to 30-3.

Jason Sarabia secured Trabuco Hills’ first team points with a 7-3 victory at 162.

James Oliveros (172), Ramsey Cole (184) and Jaxon Cook (197) all won by fall and helped put the match away for the Hawks.

The Hawks can clinch the outright league dual title next week against San Clemente. Last year, the Hawks were undefeated going into their match against San Clemente and lost.

“We’re in the same position as last year, in the driver’s seat after having a real good match last year against Trabuco and letdown last year a little bit and San Clemente wrestled real well,” Jarmie said. “I told them you can be happy about this tonight, but when you come in tomorrow, we’re right back to work.”

Trabuco Hills’ Zeus Carrillo won, 2-1, at 220 pounds.
