FULLERTON – The long Freeway League nightmare has ended for Sunny Hills. After losing 29 consecutive league contests, the Lancers wrapped up the season with a 34-27 win over host Fullerton on Friday night.

Quarterback Malcolm Dixon rushed for three scores and passed for another to lead the Sunny Hills (5-5, 1-4). Its previous league victory came at the end of the 2009 season against Buena Park.

The Lancers broke a 13-13 deadlock that had lasted since late in the first half early in the fourth quarter, as Dixon ran into the end zone from 2 yards out. Sunny Hills extended the lead after Andrew Guevara stopped Fullerton (4-6, 0-5) running back Ryan Rains for a loss on fourth down at midfield.

Dixon scored on the ground again from 1 yard away, but the 26-13 advantage was short-lived. Indians quarterback Jordan Lawton completed four passes and added a 12-yard first-down run during a 71-yard, 10-play drive. He scored on a 3-yard run with 2:33 remaining in the game.

Sunny Hills recovered the onsides kick, and 30 seconds later David Cabral eluded two tacklers and raced 35 yards for what proved to be the deciding touchdown. Cabral led the Lancers with 117 yards on 20 carries.

Lawton completed three more passes before reaching the end zone from 27 yards out, as Fullerton reduced the deficit to seven points.
