IRVINE Dana Hills girls tennis coach Justin Green joked after Tuesday’s match that he didn’t know how his team would perform with temperatures nearing triple digits, namely, because most of his players live so close to the beach.

It didn’t take long for him to realize his team would respond quite nicely.

The fourth-ranked Dolphins dominated in both singles and doubles, grabbing a 14-4 victory over host Woodbridge in a nonleague match Tuesday afternoon.

The Dolphins improved to 2-0 after beating its second Pacific Coast League adversary in the process. They topped Northwood in their season opener.

“We have a lot of returners who have been here before, very good players who have some experience,” Green said. “Our depth is our strength. We may not have the star power we’ve had in years past, but we have very good players throughout.”

With Margo Pletcher and A.J Gomer – 2013 All-County selections – no longer on the team, senior Gressa Folley has shown early she can lead a talented Dana Hills core this season.

Folley went 3-0 in singles against the Warriors (1-1), dropping just one game in her three sets.

The Dolphins went 6-3 in singles, while their doubles teams combined to go 8-1.

Woodbridge’s Lorna Morris earned half her team’s points, going 2-1 on the singles side.

No. 2 Corona del Mar 18, Newport Harbor 0: The Sea Kings’ top doubles tandem of Riley Gerdau and Siena Sharf posted three consecutive 6-0 sets, spearheading a CdM rout of its rivals in the annual Battle of the Bay.
