• Two tournaments start this week. The 78-team Anaheim Lions Tournament starts Friday at various sites and concludes April 2 with the championship game at Glover Stadium. The Boras Classic begins Saturday and concludes with the championship game April 5 at Mater Dei.

Both tournaments have informative websites: anaheimlionstourney.com; and borasclassic.com.

• Tournaments coming up in April: The Ryan Lemmon Invitational, which begins April 12; and the National Classic, which starts April 14.

• Aliso Niguel opens the tournament against Dyer County of Newbern, Tenn., which is No. 11 in Baseball America’s national rankings. Orange Lutheran’s first game is against Coral Springs Christian of Florida. The tournament began in 2012 and has been won by Mater Dei both years. It concludes Saturday.

• Trabuco Hills is 8-2, with its losses to Esperanza and Mater Dei. The Mustangs have a win over Huntington Beach. The game Wednesday against Tesoro will be the Mustangs’ South Coast League opener.

• The Dolphins’ hitters got deserved credit in Dana Hills’ 8-4 win over Aliso Niguel last week in a Sea View League game. Dana Hills coach Tom Faris spread the praise to pitcher Louis Raymond, who survived 11 hits to produce a complete game.

• JSerra freshman left-handed pitcher Jack Owen appeared in two Lions victories last week, allowing no runs with 12 strikeouts and three walks in 92/3 innings. JSerra has won seven in a row since losing its season opener to Palm Desert by one run in the Newport Elks Tournament.

• Edison is off to an 8-3 start and is 1-0 in league under first-year coach Cameron Chinn. Former Los Alamitos coach Mark Clabough is on the Chargers’ coaching staff.

• Crean Lutheran is the only county team at No. 1 in a CIF-Southern Section divisional top 10. Crean is 6-0, the only undefeated team in county baseball. The Saints have beaten four larger, public-school teams – Costa Mesa, Magnolia, Rancho Alamitos and Santa Ana.

• JSerra is No. 2 in Division 1, behind Harvard-Westlake of Studio City. Other county teams in their divisions’ top 5: Huntington Beach, No. 5 in Division 1; Dana Hills, No. 5 in Division 2; Sonora and Laguna Beach, Nos. 3 and 4, respectively, in Division 4; and Capistrano Valley Christian, No. 3 in Division 6.
