Aliso Niguel junior point guard Madelyn Brauer scored 15 points and dished out a game-high 13 assists as the Wolverines offense overwhelmed Warren High, 66-39, Tuesday afternoon in the second-round of the Larry Doyle/Dan Wiley O.C. Tournament of Champions at Marina High.

Aliso will play Orange Lutheran on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Edison High in one semifinal, determining a spot in Thursday night’s championship game. The Wolverines and Lancers will be meeting for the second time in 11 days on Wednesday. Orange Lutheran previously defeated Aliso, 53-46, back on December 17.

Brauer was one of three Wolverines in double figures on Tuesday. Charlotte Vurgun led all scorers with 21 and Suzette Quinlan chipped in with 18 points.  

Aliso scored 23 points in the first quarter and led 39-19 at the half as they cruised past the Bears.

Also in the OC Tournament of Champions:

Orange Lutheran 42, Cypress 36: Senior guard Kylie Edwards notched a game-high 16 and Jessi Matson added 11 points as the Lancers outlasted the Centurions in a second-round matchup. 

Sonora 61, Venice 43: The Raiders also earned a berth in Wednesday’s semifinals behind Lainie James’ 23-point outburst. Guards Meaghann Henderson (16 points) and Elizabeth Yoshitake (14 points) combined for 30 additional points. 

In the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic: 

Huntington Beach 55, Mt. Miguel of San Diego 34: Senior forward Frankie Wade-Sanchez maintained the hot hand on Tuesday, scoring 27 points in the Oilers 21-point victory.

Rosary 64, Desert Oasis 48: Senior point guard Camille Lira finished with a game-high 21 points and was one of three Royals to put up double figures in the win. Alexandria Iannone scored 14 and Rebekah Obinma had 12 points for Rosary. 

In the Garden Grove Winter Classic:

Canyon 56, Westminster 42: Comanches sophomore guard Taryn Uyematsu’s 27-point showing broke a halftime stalemate and guided Canyon past the Lions on Tuesday. Uyematsu is averaging 22 points through the first two games of the tournament. 

Kennedy 44, La Habra 42: The Fighting Irish pulled ahead late in the fourth quarter and held on to knock off the Highlanders in a back-and-forth battle. Junior center Katelyn Bomar scored 14 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in the win.
