GARDEN GROVE – Garden Grove’s football team has ruled the Garden Grove League for some time.

The Argonauts showed they are not about to loosen theirs grip on the league standings as they defeated La Quinta, 68-14, on Thursday night at Garden Grove High.

Alejandro Ceja threw for 241 yards and five touchdowns for the first-place Argonauts (7-1, 3-0), who went into the night tied for the league’s top spot with Los Amigos.

Austen Christian had four catches for 110 yards and two touchdowns. Reily Hoalton added two touchdown receptions for Garden Grove.

Los Amigos (4-3, 2-0) will try to draw even with the Argonauts on Friday when it faces Rancho Alamitos. Garden Grove will face the Lobos with the league lead at stake next week.

The 68 points were the most by the Argonauts since last year’s 70-point outing against Rancho Alamitos.

Garden Grove, which has won 15 consecutive league games, jumped on the Aztecs (1-7, 0-3) early.

Jordan Antunez opened the scoring with an electric 47-yard run, as the Argonauts scored on their first five possessions to open up a 34-7 lead.

Tam Le’s second rushing touchdown brought the Aztecs closer, but Hoalton found the end zone 36 seconds later to give the Argonauts a 41-14 advantage heading into halftime.

In the third quarter, Josh Parker intercepted a Joseph Lopez pass and returned it 39 yards for a Garden Grove score. The defensive highlights were followed by back-to-back rushing touchdowns by Tim Cao.

Michael Vaicaro recorded an interception in the first half for Garden Grove.

Malik Bilal also had a receiving touchdown for the Argonauts.

Le had a game-high 121 rushing yards for La Quinta. Vinny Tran added 49 yards on 10 carries.

The Aztecs will host Santiago next week at Bolsa Grande High.
