The league champions in girls water polo have been crowned. The playoffs begin Tuesday.

It’s a perfect time to recognize the regular-season leaders from the O.C. leaderboard.

Scoring champion: Saddleback sophomore attacker Aisley Martinez led the county with 146 goals but was shut out by rival Santa Ana Valley on Thursday. “Valley is a good team that is well coached,” Saddleback coach Sam Gonzalez said.

Assists leader: Martinez had help. Saddleback also featured the assists leader in junior Inez Gonzalez, who posted 105.

Inez Gonzalez is the niece of Coach Gonzalez.

When it comes to assists, Laguna Beach’s Bella Baldridge might be the county’s top passer. She finished the regular season second to Gonzalez with 77 assists, nine shy of breaking her single-season school record (85).

Saves leader: Cami Owens of Kennedy not only led the county with 399 saves, the senior’s total set a CIF-SS single-season record. The Fighting Irish captured their first league title.

Steals leader: Senior defender Cindy Aguayo of Santa Ana Valley recorded a county-high 102 steals to help anchor the defense for the Orange League champion.

WRESTLING

The CIF-SS Individual Championships grab the spotlight this week for wrestling.

There are six locations, with two in the county – Coastal Division at Westminster High and Southern Division at Brea Olinda High.

Wrestling begins at all locations Friday and Saturday at 11 a.m. The medal matches are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., but that time could be moved earlier.

The top five wrestlers in each weight class at all six locations will advance to the CIF-SS Masters Meet on Feb. 24-25 at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario.
