Gomez was the seventh seed at the El Dorado Invitational and went on to finish first at 138 pounds. Gomez won one match by major decision, one by fall and three by decision including 7-6 in the finals against Johnny Knowles (Calvary Chapel). Gomez also had a 9-5 victory over Aaron Mora of Clovis West, who is ranked Top 20 in the state at 138.
