SANTA ANA – Godinez started Orange Coast League play with a convincing 44-14 victory over visiting Saddleback on Friday night at Segerstrom High.

Godinez (3-3, 1-0) took control from the start, taking a 10-0 lead in the first quarter to set the tone for their dominating performance. It was a 34-point second quarter that put the game out of reach. The Grizzlies led, 44-0, at halftime.

Saddleback (3-3, 0-1) didn’t quit despite the deficit, though, rallying for 14 second-half points.

Bryan Ibarra was the main threat on offense for the Grizzlies, finishing the game 9-for-14 passing with 110 yards and two touchdowns. Ibarra also ran 15 times for 108 yards and one score. Running back Andy Sosa had two rushing touchdowns for Godinez.

The defense also played well, forcing five turnovers to consistently set the offense up in good field position.

Saddleback quarterback Ozzy Zuno overcame four interceptions by leading two second-half TD drives. Zuno finished the game 5 for 17 for 87 yards and a touchdown.

The Roadrunners’ ground game was led by junior Giovanni Estrada who ran 15 times for 84 yards and a score.

Godinez will next host Calvary Chapel in another Orange Coast League clash, while the Roadrunners host Laguna Beach on Friday.
