ORANGE COUNTY BOYS LACROSSE CHAMPIONSHIPS

San Clemente (15-6) vs. Corona del Mar (22-0).

Site, date, time: Dana Hills, Wednesday, 7:30 p.m.

How they got here: San Clemente, the No. 3 seed, defeated Beckman, 12-8; Los Alamitos, 13-6; and Santa Margarita, 12-11, in sudden-death overtime in the semifinals; Corona del Mar, the top seed, def. Servite, 13-10; Huntington Beach, 10-6; and Foothill, 7-5, in the semifinals.

Outlook: There will be a new champion this year as Corona del Mar ended Foothill’s five-year rule of the sports last weekend. It i s Corona del Mar’s third trip to the finals and the first in two years.

San Clemente is making its first trip to the finals under Coach Glen Miles. The Tritons come into the match after Saturday’s overtime win over Santa Margarita. Peyton Garrett, who scored the game winner, leads the Tritons with 48 goals and 45 assists. Jay Kassity has 50 goals and 40 assists and Robbie Burns has 68 goals and 22 assists.

Corona del Mar, coached by G.W. Mix, also has a talented group led by Michael Keasey who has 49 goals and 32 assists, Casey Mix (42 goals, 36 assists), Jack Ortlieb (54 goals, 23 assists) and Hunter Molnar (48 goals, 11 assists).

Goalkeeper Michael Ortlieb is one of the best in the county. He has 161 saves, a 72 percent save percentage. CdM’s defense consisting of Orlieb, Connor Cruse, Matt English and Eric Fisher has allowed under four goals a game.
