The Register’s preview of the CIF Southern California Regional championship game Saturday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

DIVISION III

ROSARY (28-5) vs. SERRA OF SAN DIEGO (23-10)

Where, when: at Servite High, Saturday, 6 p.m.

Outlook: There was a genuine sense of shock from Rosary coach Richard Yoon on Tuesday night upon finding out the Royals would be seeing Serra in the regional final instead of second-seeded Camarillo, which the Royals beat in overtime of the Division 2AA final. The sixth-seeded Conquistadors defeated Camarillo, 57-51, in the regional semifinals. They feature a trio of players averaging double figures for points this season, led by senior forward Monique Smith, who is scoring 18.1 points and grabbing 10.3 rebounds an outing. Junior shooting guard Larissa Severt (15.8 points per game) can light it up from beyond the arc, while point guard Breanne Archie averages 13 points and four steals per game. Rosary has made it to this stage of the season by feeding center Becky Obinma early and often. The junior is averaging close to 14 points a game in the postseason. If she can stay out of foul trouble, she can be a game-changer on the defensive end. Senior Camille Lira scored 18 points in the semis, and guards Alli Iannone and Kate Goostrey have been knocking down open 3-pointers in the postseason.
