The first big clash of the Sunset League girls soccer season left nothing decided between No. 1 Los Alamitos and No. 7 Huntington Beach, but it opened the door for No. 10 Edison to get a half-step ahead.

Huntington Beach broke a scoreless tie early in the second half, but Los Alamitos responded late and the teams played through overtime to a tie, 1-1, Thursday at Huntington Beach High.

Cina Wilson put the Oilers ahead 10 minutes into the second half. The goal was the first allowed by the Griffins in seven games.

Ashley Soto tied things up for Los Alamitos with 16 minutes remaining.

Each team had free kick opportunities in each of the two overtime periods but couldn’t break the deadlock.

The Griffins beat the Oilers in the Excalibur quarterfinals, 1-0.

At Fountain Valley High, Edison got a golden goal from Taylor Wasserman off a Mikayla Edwards free kick to defeat the Barons in overtime, 2-1. Cassidy Helenihi scored on a first-half penalty kick for the Chargers.

The win puts Edison (9-4-2, 2-0-0) a half-game ahead of Los Alamitos (16-1-3, 1-0-1) and Huntington Beach (12-4-4, 1-0-1) and in first place in the Sunset League standings.

The Chargers have two games remaining against both teams.

Huntington Beach will be at Edison on Tuesday, and Edison plays at Los Alamitos on Jan. 17.

Edison has lost to both teams in tournament games this season. The Chargers fell to Los Alamitos, 2-1, in the Aliso Cup final, and lost to Huntington Beach, 2-1, in the Excalibur fifth-place bracket.

Huntington Beach will be at Los Alamitos on Jan. 23 for their second league meeting.
