William Truong, a standout in track and football at Esperanza, suffered a broken neck in a trampoline accident Monday, according to the school.

In an email sent out by the school Monday afternoon, Principal Dr. Ken Fox said Truong, a senior, “suffered a serious accident today which resulted in a broken neck. He is currently hospitalized and is scheduled for surgery tomorrow (Tuesday). He is able to move his arms, but at this time, he has no feeling in his legs.”

Truong competed this past weekend at the CIF State Track and Field Championships in Clovis. He finished third in the shot put with a lifetime best of 62-feet, 41/2 inches.

The 6-foot-2, 260-pound Truong was an all-league offensive and defensive lineman last season. He was recruited to play football for Army starting in the fall.
