Gabby Garcia’s quest to become just the second girls wrestler in the state history to win four state wrestling titles is off to a promising start.

Garcia, a senior from Valencia, won her first three matches of this year’s CIF State Championships by fall Friday to advance to the semifinals.

Garcia (126) will face freshman Savannah Vierra of Vista Del Lago in the semifinals. If she’s successful against Vierra, she will face either Nicole Joseph (Camarillo) or Dalla Garibay (Freedom) in the finals. Garcia defeated Joseph by fall at the CIF Individuals earlier this month.

Canyon’s Aleeah Gould (106) is in the semifinals at her weight. Gould won two matches by fall and she ended the night with a 7-3 victory in the quarterfinals. She will face Marijah Morales of Selma in the semifinals.

Kennedy’s Miyuki Pugrad (131) is also in the semifinals. Pugrad won all three of her matches by fall. Pugrad will face Kendall Davis of Los Gatos.

Normanee Brown (Savanna, 106), Maria Alvarez (Aliso Niguel, 111), Cassandra Parra (Santa Ana, 121), Karamia Guzman (Cypress, 137), Samantha Salas (Godinez, 150)

Wrestling resumes Saturday at 9 a.m.
