Chase Garbers reached his college decision Tuesday armed with his powerful right arm and plenty of sound reasons on his side.

The Corona del Mar senior-to-be committed to Cal, picking the Golden Bears over Washington, Vanderbilt and Mississippi.

He then promptly rattled off the numerous reasons why he picked the Pac-12 school, his enthusiasm seemingly building with his list.

“On a scale of 1 to 10,” he said via Twitter of his excitement, “I’d say (it’s a) 20.”

He started with academics.

“First off, it’s a world-class education, No. 1 public business school,” he said.

Garbers plans to major in business but also is serious about football.

“Since 1960, they’ve had six (NFL) first-round QB’s,” he said. “They know what they’re doing in my position.”

He also connected well with Coach Sonny Dykes and offensive coordinator Jake Spavita and the Bears’ offense.

“The school puts me in the best situation to succeed on and off the field and generally, I just feel at home,” Garbers said. “We’re brewing something special at Cal.”

Garbers joins a Cal 2017 recruiting class that includes wide receivers Jeremiah Hawkins and Taariq Johnson from Buena Park.

“They are my boys,” he said, “even though they beat us last year (in CIF).”
