COSTA MESA – Chase Garbers played only a half Friday night in Corona del Mar’s win over Northwood at Estancia High, but it was a half a lot of quarterbacks would happily accept as a complete game.

The junior quarterback threw for 205 yards and four touchdowns and the Sea Kings clinched the Pacific Coast League title, extending its league winning streak to 19 games over four-plus seasons with a 48-7 win over the Timberwolves.

Garbers completed 12 of 23 passes and hit Billy Shaw for two scores and Tae Le and Peter Bush for one each as the Sea Kings strutted to a 38-0 halftime lead.

“We were a little sloppy early and they gave us some problems on defense, but once we settled down we were OK,’’ Corona del Mar coach Dan O’Shea said. “I thought our defense played better than it has the last few weeks.”

Garbers had some misses and some drops early but made up for it in the second quarter, completing his last seven passes, three for scores.

“(Northwood) gave me a little trouble,’’ Garbers said. “They run a good defense and their blitz packages are unreal. But we kept after them.”

Peter Bush had three catches for 86 yards and a score as well as a 47-yard scoring run when he came in at quarterback in the third quarter. Le (3 for 61), Shaw (4 for 36) and Reece Perez (3 for 36) shared the catches as Garber spread the ball around.

The Timberwolves’ Spencer Tran ran for 93 yards and a touchdown.

Corona del Mar ran out to a quick 17-0 lead six-plus minutes into the game, on a Jason Neiger 27-yard field goal, Garber’s 5-yard TD pass to Bush and Dylan Tucker’s 26-yard interception return.

The Sea Kings scored three more TDs on Garber passes to make it 38-0 at halftime.
