COSTA MESA – Corona del Mar’s football team has been the king of the Pacific Coast League for several seasons.

An early offensive outburst ensured that reputation would not be threatened Thursday night, as the Sea Kings rolled past Beckman, 52-20, in their homecoming game at Estancia High.

Chase Garbers completed 25 of 29 passes for 315 yards and six touchdowns to lead Corona del Mar, which won its 17th consecutive league game.

Up next for the Sea Kings (5-2, 2-0) is undefeated University. Garbers said he is excited about the matchup.

“Playing an undefeated team is always fun,” he said. “Tonight, we showed what we can do offensively. It’s going to be a fun one.”

The Sea Kings scored touchdowns on their first five drives. Garbers was in rhythm from the start, connecting on his first 11 passes. Leading receiver Peter Bush (116 yards) was on the receiving end of Garbers’ first three touchdowns.

Following Bush’s third score, the Sea Kings recovered Jason Neiger’s onside kick. The next play went for a 49-yard receiving touchdown to Jack Blower, breaking the game open, 28-0.

Blower finished with three catches for 76 yards and two touchdowns. Taeveon Le caught Garbers’ final touchdown, a 14-yard strike in the third.

“Chase is, I think, as good as any quarterback in Orange County,” Sea Kings coach Dan O’Shea said. “He’s got some wide receivers that are really dynamic. He can spread it around.”

Despite the large deficit, Beckman (2-5, 0-2) impressed in the running game. Jake Groves rushed for 147 yards and a touchdown behind an offensive line consisting of Trent Rasmussen, Greg Matl, Arya Roessler, Jett Zeimantz and Daniel Stringfellow.

Quarterback Dean Nagle had a rushing score and added a passing touchdown to Cameron Urick in the fourth quarter.
