Mater Dei is better.

Brea Olinda is better.

Mater Dei! Brea!

MATER DEI!! BREA!!

That’s basically the debate that goes on every year in Orange County as fans argue about the area’s top girls basketball team.

For a long time, the top team was Brea Olinda, but lately is has been Mater Dei.

And this year, the teams have been side-by-side in the county rankings for nearly the entire season — Mater Dei at No. 1 and Brea Olinda at No. 2.

So that’s the backdrop for tonight’s game, which OCVarsity is willing to declare the “Game of the Year” in Orange County.

The teams meet tonight at Brea Olinda High in the quarterfinals of the Open Division playoffs. It will be their first meeting since the 2012 CIF-SS Division 1AA championship game. The Monarchs won that game, 54-47, and have a three-game winning streak in the series.

If you can’t make it to the game, don’t worry because OCVarsity will have live updates, beginning shortly before tipoff at 7 p.m.

Here is how you can get the highlights, updates and news from our reporter at courtside:

— follow our reporter, Kenny Connolly, on his Twitter account: @kconnolly89

— follow the updates on Twitter by searching for hash tag #ocvupdates

— go to the OCVarsity homepage and look for the window that lists our Twitter updates. It updates automatically, so all you have to do is watch as the updates roll in.

Also, be sure to check out our story and photos from the game, which will be published late tonight at OCVarsity.com. The story and photos will also appear on the cover of Wednesday’s Register Sports section.

Enjoy the game!
