Update: Katie Lou Samuelson did not play in Mater Dei’s 74-25 victory over Rosary on Tuesday night.

Standout Mater Dei senior Katie Lou Samuelson had a season-low seven points in the Monarchs’ Trinity League win over Orange Lutheran on Monday night, but for good reason.

The 6-foot-3 Connecticut-bound recruit, who came into the game averaging 30 points per game, injured her left knee in the first quarter and sat out the rest of the game, according to Mater Dei coach Kevin Kiernan, and the No. 1 Monarchs (19-1, 3-0) still went on to rout the No. 8 Lancers (15-6, 2-2), 53-20.

Kiernan suspects the injury is a hyperextension, and said Samuelson will probably miss the Monarchs’ Trinity League game at home tonight against Rosary, but the coach is hoping she will be healthy enough to return for Thursday’s game against No. 4 JSerra.
