TUSTIN – Maybe Foothill’s offense walked under a ladder or came across a black cat prior to its game against Palos Verdes.

Because whatever bad luck that could have happened to the Knights on offense, occurred against the Sea Kings.

Mistake-prone Foothill turned over the ball four times in a 50-14 loss against Palos Verdes in a nonleague game at Tustin on Thursday.

“Third game of the season, and we have to quit making mistakes,” Knights coach Doug Case said. “It’s game three and we should be able to execute better than we did tonight. They were just a better team than us, but we kind of shot ourselves in the foot.”

The tone was set on Foothill’s first offensive play as they couldn’t complete a handoff, which resulted in a fumble and a Sea Kings score a few plays later. The Knights would fumble the ball away on their third offensive snap of the game, too.

Palos Verdes (2-2) scored 21 points in the second quarter to blow the game open and take a 29-0 lead into half.

The lead swelled to 50-0 in the fourth before Logan Wetherholt and Chad McCune each recorded fumble-return touchdowns for Foothill (1-2).

The Knights’ offense has still produced just two touchdowns this season. Jared Copeland had 41 rushing yards on 13 carries for Foothill. He also posted one reception for 10 yards.

Joey Schlemmer also posted an interception in the second quarter. Preston Moebius came in at quarterback in the first quarter, but completed just eight of 20 passes for 27 yards.

Next week the Knights will look to fix their offensive woes against Brea Olinda.
