COSTA MESA – Statistically, it was the greatest night ever in Orange County high school football.

It was the highest-scoring game in county history. Laguna Beach running back Nathan Lancaster set the Orange County single-game record for rushing yardage.

Calvary Chapel quarterback Danny Mattero passed for 505 yards, the third-most in a game in county history.

Calvary Chapel and Laguna Beach combined for a county single-game record 118 points, breaking a 92-year-old record.

Calvary Chapel beat Laguna Beach in overtime, 62-56, on Thursday.

Lancaster rushed for his 552 yards on 31 carries.

He broke the record of 527 set by Skyler Champion of Foothill in 1999.

Lancaster's seven rushing touchdowns is the second-most in county history.

Records are not kept for combined total yardage. If they were, the Calvary Chapel-Laguna Beach collaboration of 1,416 yards might have set another county standard.

Mattero threw for five touchdowns. The fifth one was in overtime, when he connected with Luke Buran for a 22-yard touchdown.

He also rushed for 95 yards and one touchdown, with that touchdown coming with 1:26 left in regulation.

Lancaster had two touchdown runs of 68 yards, and the other five went for 1, 41, 63, 75 and 76 yards.

Calvary kicker Lukas Eikeri was 8 for 8 on extra-point kicks, including the one with 1:26 to go that pushed the game into overtime.

Three Eagles had more than 100 receiving yards: Joey Cox, Luke Kaeser and Nick Meldrum.

The outcome ended Laguna Beach's league winning streak at eight games.

Calvary Chapel (7-1, 3-0) trailed, 14-0, in the first quarter and 35-14 in the second quarter. The Eagles never led until the overtime touchdown.

The Eagles are in first place, one-half game ahead of Costa Mesa, which plays Saddleback in a league game Saturday.

Laguna Beach is 5-3 and 2-1.
