IRVINE Crean Lutheran diver Colten Young opened his senior season in dominating fashion Friday at the Mission Viejo Invitational.

The Princeton-bound diver captured the boys title by almost 50 points with an 11-dive score of 558.95 at the Woollett Aquatics Center.

Young, the two-time defending state champion, outdistanced runner-up Andrew Harness of Villa Park (510.35) to claim the 17-diver competition.

Cody Dreesen of Granite Hills and recent Cal commit Jonathan Robinson of Beckman placed third and fourth, respectively, with scores of 482.60 and 445.30.

Results of the girls competition weren’t official afterward due to technical difficulties during the meet. OCVarsity.com will have coverage of the girls event after the expected release of the results on Saturday.

Capistrano Valley sophomores Hayley Montague and Markie Hopkins were two of the top performers.

The meet’s swim competition opens Saturday at 9 a.m. at Woollett with preliminaries. The finals are scheduled for 4 p.m.
