Top-ranked Mater Dei, No. 3 Huntington Beach, No. 4 Laguna Beach along with Century League contender Villa Park are among the boys water polo teams competing at the North-South Challenge on Friday and Saturday in Atherton.

The Monarchs (14-3) are the four-time defending tournament champion and could clash for a third time this season with Harvard-Westlake of Studio City (18-0). Harvard-Westlake has won both matches, including a meeting in the finals of the Santa Barbara tournament.

Mater Dei, seeded second to Harvard amongst the Southern California teams, opens against Davis on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Prep in Atherton.

Huntington Beach (14-4) earned the No. 4 seed from the South and opens against St. Francis of Mountain Valley at 1:45 p.m. Friday at Menlo-Atherton. Laguna Beach (15-4) grabbed a No. 5 Southern seed and starts against Menlo on Friday at 1:45 p.m. at Sacred Heart Prep.

Villa Park is the eighth seed from the South and opens against Northern California No. 1 and host Sacred Heart Prep at 3:55 p.m. on Friday.

The tournament also features Division 1-ranked Loyola of Los Angeles and Agoura among others. The 16-team event is one of the last major tournaments of the regular season. The final is scheduled for 5:20 p.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Prep.
