The anticipated start of the Trinity League football season Friday will include some new players to follow.

Servite and Santa Margarita will be among the teams bolstered by the addition of transfers who are eligible after observing the Southern Section’s 30-day sitout period.

At Servite, well-regarded sophomore wide receiver/cornerback Trent McDuffie will debut against four-time defending Trinity League champion St. John Bosco, Friars coach Scott Meyer said in a text message.

McDuffie could give quarterback Tyler Lytle — a Colorado commit — another target and the Friars an intriguing cornerback and return man.

Servite also will add junior offensive lineman Parker Thomas, a transfer from Canyon who attended Servite as a freshman.

At Santa Margarita, rising sophomore defensive end/outside linebacker Mase Funa will make his debut when the Eagles play top-ranked Mater Dei, Eagles coach Rich Fisher said in an e-mail.

Funa, a transfer from a high school in Utah, has been offered by BYU and Utah.

The Eagles will also have three new offensive linemen to keep tabs on: Mario Bernal (Helix, 6-5, 315), Brandon Schillig (El Toro, 6-5, 240) and Chris Lee (Servite).
